We are part of a strong community

All SMICH students are part of a larger scientific community.

All students are enrolled in the “Molecular Bioscience” course of study at the University of Vienna (UW) and the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni). This means that they will have access to all the courses, workshops, and services of both Universities, and will receive a dual degree from both universities. Joint degrees are on the rise but they are still rather rare and will boost the visibility of our students.

All SMICH students also belong to the Vienna BioCenter PhD program, which handles the selection process and offers plenty of courses, workshops and fosters scientific exchange with all students across the Campus.

Registration

PhD students register with one University, typically the home University of their supervisor, and will be automatically co-registered with the other university.

All relevant info on registration at the University of Vienna can be found at the PhD students lounge. All relevant info on registration at the Medical University of Vienna can be found on their webpage. In both cases, you register for the Program “Molecular Biosciences”.

Enrollment must be renewed every semester:

Winter semester: 1 Oct – 28 Feb

General admission period: 15 October, Extended admission period: 30 November

Summer semester: 1 Mar – 30 Sep

General admission period: 15 March, Extended admission period: 30 April

For the sake of completeness:

If you want to co-register at the UW you will find all info here. To continue your co-registration in the following semesters, submit your new student record sheet and student ID card within the application period of the respective semester.

If you want to co-register at the MedUni you will find all info here. To continue your co-registration in the following semesters, submit your new student record sheet, the application for co-registration, and prior permission from your home university.

If you have questions please contact your Program Manager. For university-specific matters, you should contact Gerlinde Aschauer of the VBC Training Team (University of Vienna) or the Department of Students Affairs (Medical University of Vienna).
